I recently read the article you published in last week's Avalanche about my grandfather, Walt Adams. I wanted to thank you for remembering him in such a way as to remind us all of what a true "character" he was. I now own my grandparents' home in Silver City. Although we miss Grandpa's rustic wit and OYE Co. charm, you can be asured that the front porch still affords a friendly afternoon spot for commentary and reflection. Stop by next time you are up our way.

Ha! Hiya Wayne!

We have a TV program over here called "Grumpy Old Men", where all our ageing TV stars bitch away about what annoys them in the world. This article sounds like one of their scripts!

DJ:

Thanks for the compliments. I'm glad you enjoy the columns. You remember some of them better than I do. The one I remember in Caldwell was the Sportsman, over on the west edge of town. I pass within about a block of where it was in my way to work and have never looked to see it it is still there!
I'll be glad to help with your camera question if I can.

Oops, I don't really say "expecially"...that is a typo. Probably not the only one. You know how eyes get at this age. I am between eye surgery and glasses so seeing the screen is not so good.

Hi Wayne,
I have loved and read your column for many years now. My mother subscribes to the OA for me. My husband and I live in central Oregon. We both grew up in the wild wild west of Jordan Valley. I love the OA paper!

You are three years older than me so I really enjoy hearing about your stories of those good old days.

One of my favorite columns was about the end of the school year play day. I wrote a letter back to you regarding my experience of play day in Jordan Valley with those big mean tough Sheaville and Arock kids coming to town.....and they were scary too, I might add.

I knew that I would always be the last one over the line on those dumb races, or the first one to knock the bar down on the high jump. At least I knew the outcome before the event so there was never a surprise.....except maybe the surprise that one of those big out of town kids did not hurt me. I never did mail that letter to you though. I guess I still have it somewhere in my group of papers.

That was not the only one I wrote to you. There was also a column that was in regards (I think, I am vague on it now) about your wife questioning you with the third degree when an old classmate or ex-girlfriend's name came up. It was quite a while ago but it was funny too, expecially since my husband and I had just had nearly the same conversation. When will you boys ever learn about us girls!!?? NEVER!

Your two little granddaughters are absolutely adorable. My two granddaughters are 13.5 and 16. Of course they bring us great joy. The older one is into horses and rodeo competetion. The younger one is our princess who models and is into the girly Hollywood stuff. Two girls with the same parents, same home and totally different directions. We love them both, each for their very sweet and special ways. Enoy them all that you can when they are little because they grow up so darn fast and then they like boys. Booooo!

My husband and I moved to Madras 42 years ago when we got married. My mother and brother sold the family ranch in JV a few years ago and moved to Caldwell.

Keep on keeping on with the column. I love reading it. Most of you stories bring back such wonderful memories of a wonderful time of life.

Just one more memory. You had a column about how you could not wait to get old enough to get into a certain bar in Caldwell....was it the Cimmaron? Can't remember for sure the name, but it was the very same bar that I could hardly wait to get into also when I was 16. Trouble is, I got married right out of high school, moved over to Madras and had a one year old baby when I turned 21. I had never thought of that Cimmaron bar again until you mentioned it in your column. That was just too funny to read about that again. My friend Carol was getting in there when she was still 18 NOT fair. I know that I am not remembering the right name of that place but I bet you know what I am talking about.

I hope that this post gets to you okay. Can I ask you a question about a comera sometime?

Sincerely,
DJ (Raburn) Patterson
